FUNDING
Since the fall of the socialist bloc in the late 1980s, the living conditions of the most vulnerable in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) have dramatically deteriorated. This crisis is being experienced even more intensely by people fully dependent on the state for all their needs, especially the elderly, when they live in retirement homes without any family member to take care of them.
Meeting of the Chinese Committee in Beijing to prepare the study tour
An initial evaluation and a participative diagnosis allowed the determination of an action plan and the training of KFCA central committee members, and customized training sessions will be carried out to respond to the needs identified: project cycle, web design, communication, fund raising, etc. A study tour in China will be organized in partnership with the China National Committee on Ageing (CNCA), which will allow KFCA to discover another operating mode that might help the development of their activities in DPRK. This capacity building component will allow the active exchange of information between KFCA and the Chinese National Committee.
TGH will accompany KFCA in its awareness-raising activities relating to the rights of the aged and their social inclusion, such as organization of or participation in seminars or conferences, organization of workshops and events, as well as the production and distribution of supporting materials. In June and September 2014, several KFCA members visited India and Thailand to attend international conferences on the theme of older people in society.
This project also targets KFCA central and provincial committees and reception center staff, in order to provide improved adapted and sustainable care for the aged. Here again, training sessions will be organized, adapted to each trainee: social inclusion or mobility for members of the KFCA provincial committees; project management, gerontology and care of the aged for reception facility members. The programme includes the distribution of medicine, goods and equipment to the aged living in retirement homes, as well as research on innovative activities (physical, cultural, or income generating activities) contributing to the provision of sustainable care in reception facilities.
