The upstream analysis carried-out by TGH highlighted the technical and organizational problems occurring throughout the vegetable production chain, until distribution.
This action aims to sustainably increase the quantity and quality of products distributed, by securing the means of production, strengthening the means of distribution and preservation, and improving food access for the institutions involved during the lean period (May/ June).
During the lean period lasting one month and a half, soybean, soybean oil and sugar will be distributed to some 17, 000 children under 16 staying in the 81 local institutions.
The improvement of irrigation canals and the strengthening of protection dykes will help secure and sustainably increase vegetable production and protect the means of production against the risk of natural disasters, which is increasingly important in the country. Corn will be distributed to the 200 workers participating in the works.
Vegetable storage, distribution and preservation will be improved through interventions on the means of transportation (tiller), storage (crates), preservation (barrels), and through the establishment of a washing station.
Finally, training and advice on hygiene and on the vegetable post-production chain will be provided to the staff of those institutions in order to strengthen their capacities in the field of nutrition.
