The learning environment is very poor in the Vakaga, due to the lack of school infrastructure (apart from the buildings built by TGH, the few existing schools are made of perishable materials¹), combined with the lack of teachers (only eleven permanent teachers were deployed in 2017 throughout the 45 schools in the Vakaga, and only two were actually present in the field, schools operating only with parent teachers).
Schools are also very poorly equipped (459 tables and benches for 45 schools). The basic enrolment rate in Fondamental 1 for girls is much lower than that of boys (41% compared to 59%, while the national level is 65% / 79%).

The training of 97 parent-teachers, with the support of the Academy Inspectorate, will strengthen the capacities and resources of education stakeholders. Awareness-raising on hygiene and girls' schooling will also be implemented in schools.
¹According to the 2016/2017 statistical yearbook of the Ministry of Primary, Secondary and Technical Education and Literacy, 48.7% of schools in the Vakaga Region are in "poor condition".
